“Reading the Holy Scriptures Sacramentally”
This Twenty-seventh annual St. Michael Liturgical Conference will focus on the theology of the Divine Service, the Sacramental reading of the Holy Scriptures, the Collects of the Reformation era, the new Protes’tant hymnal “Te Laudamus” , and the role of the Our Father in the development of the ancient Canon.
Keynote Address
Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Boyle – “Reading the Holy Scriptures Sacramentally”
Dr. Boyle will introduce a Sacramental approach to Scriptural hermeneutics, “A Real-Presence Reading of Scripture". In considering Holy Writ from the perspective of the Sacraments, he will address the very character of the Scriptures.
Q & A with Dr. Boyle - Fr. Mark Braden, Pastor of Zion, will moderate Q & A with Dr. Boyle, allowing conference attendees to interact with Dr. Boyle on his keynote presentation.
A Panel Discussion by this years’ presenters, joined by select Gottesdienst editors and distinguished guests, will follow the Q&A.
Workshops: The Collects of the Reformation, Te Laudamus, and the Lord’s Prayer in the Mass:
Fr. Eckardt will discuss the use of the Lord’s Prayer in the Holy Mass. He will present the concept that the Our Father was seminal to the development of the ancient Canon.
Dr. Reuning will present and explore sections of the recently published Protes’tant hymnal, Te Laudamus.
Frs. Gramenz and Scamman will present the fruits of their research on the historic Collects of the Reformation era churches in Germany.
Dr. Emily Solomon will perform the Organ Recital. Dr. Solomon is Cantor of Zion Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Detroit, Executive Director for the Academy of Early Music in Ann Arbor, and Co-Director of LCMS Connections. She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in Sacred Music from the University of Michigan. She was awarded the Rackham Dissertation Fellowship in support of her research on the Evangelical Lutheran Hymn-Book of 1912.
Rev. Dr. David Petersen, Pastor of Redeemer Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Fort Wayne, will preach at the Solemn High Mass.
